In this online seminar, Prof. Dr Kuşdil delivered a presentation entitled “Lives in the Aquarium: The Historicity of Social Behaviour and the Sediments of Capitalism.” The seminar explored how social behaviour is shaped by historical processes, emphasising the role of economic and cultural dynamics in the formation of individual and collective behavioural patterns. Particular attention was given to how capitalist social structures continue to influence contemporary social relations. The seminar concluded with an engaging discussion and a question-and-answer session, providing participants with an opportunity to exchange ideas on current theoretical debates in social psychology and their connections to broader social and historical processes.

Seher Karasu Presented in the Perception and Politics Lab Seminar Series

6/8/2026 • By Seher KARASU

As part of the Seminar Series organized by the Perception and Politics Lab (PnP Lab) of the Department of Psychology at Abdullah Gül University, our lab member Seher Karasu delivered a presentation entitled “Collective Action in the Grip of Futurelessness".
In this online seminar, Karasu shared her insights on the psychological barriers to social transformation, discussing why modern societies can be reluctant to engage in collective action despite pressing social, economic, and ecological issues. The presentation focused particularly on the "perception of a lack of future" and how losing a shared vision weakens individual motivation. Drawing from a social and political psychology perspective, she discussed the connections between hopelessness and collective action, arguing that reviving the motivation for social change is possible by rethinking and reimagining our future.

As the AGU PnP Lab, we are delighted to have our members share their research and would like to thank Seher Karasu for this thought-provoking seminar and her contributions to our series.
